Murmuring Obols is a new currency type that players will come across in the world of Diablo 4. Taking cues from the familiar system in Diablo 3, returning players will find the usage of this currency ordinary. However, for newcomers to this ARPG game series, it can catch them off-guard, as Diablo 4 does not mention their usage. So, learn how to get Murmuring Obols and use them to gamble to receive new items in Diablo 4.
What Are Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
If you have played Diablo 3, you would remember that you sometimes get a currency called Blood Shards, which in theory work like the Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4. These currencies were first introduced in Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls and were obtainable in the adventure mode of the game. Players can use this currency at a gambler, who can provide you high-tier gear if your luck prevails.
As mentioned, the Murmuring Obols is a currency that works similarly. Players can collect this currency and then go to the Purveyor of Curiosities, a trader in various parts of the Sanctuary. Much like Kadala in Diablo 3, the stats of the gear Purveyor of Curiosities vendor offers in exchange for Murmuring Obols are randomized. This essentially turns it into gambling, yet again.
How to Get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
There are two simple ways using which you can get your hands on murmuring obols in the game:
1. Item Pickup in World Events
The most common and easiest way to get murmuring obols is through item pickups in world events. To get through this method, follow the below steps:
One thing to note here is that every event has aspecific mastery requirement, and completing the event with that particular mastery requirement will net you more murmuring obols. Sometimes, Diablo 4 will also drop a consumable called Murmuring Cache, which gets you a total of 50 of them (more on this below).
2. Salvage Caches and Murmuring Caches
The second way to obtain murmuring obols is through the side quest salvage caches. These are the caches you receive after completing a side quest in the game. While the content of these caches is randomized for the most part, they do drop the currency.
To get murmuring obols, navigate to your inventory in Diablo 4 and right-click on the cache to unlock it. It will drop the items on the map, and you will automatically pick up the items.
At an off-chance, if the RNG gods of Diablo 4 bless you, you might also receive a Murmuring Cache upon quest completion. Thiscache specifically drops only murmuring obols, and the usage method is similar to opening a salvage cache.

After you obtain Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4, follow the following steps to learn how to use them and gamble for better items in the game.
It is worth noting that there is always a chance to receive legendary gear in exchange for the currency in Diablo 4. However, that chance is slim and depends on the RNG’s luck. We do recommend trying this out, as these currencies are easy to gather, given the events in Diablo 4 keep happening every time. Furthermore, any gear that does not suit your taste can be salvaged to gather resources.
