How to Get Rift Crystals (RC) in Dragon’s Dogma 2 Without Spending Money

Rift Crystals have a multitude of uses in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They can be used to hire stronger Pawns, buy customizable items, like Art of Metamorphosis, or buy other useful items. Capcom has put Rift Crystal top-ups on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam Store, which has been received very poorly by the players. However, you can easily farm Rift Crystals in the game and don’t need to buy them from the Steam store. Here is a quick guide on how to get Rift Crystals or RC in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

There are multiple ways to get Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Some are limited and others are more accessible. Here are all the ways you can farm Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Find Rift Stones Scattered around the World

Find Rift Stones Scattered around the World

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a massive world, filled with secrets and hidden loot. As you travel around the world, you will come across broken Rift Stones. Examining these Rift Stones will fix them and make them accessible. Finding Rift Stones around the open world and fixing them gives 30 Rift Crystals (RC) each time. This is a limited way to get RC but very easy as all you need to do is keep your eye out for them.

Have Your Main Pawn Hired By Other Players

Have Your Main Pawn Hired By Other Players

The easiest way to farm Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is to have your Pawns get hired by other players through Rift Stones. The longer your main Pawn is hired, the more RC you will get when they return. Now, how to get your Pawn hired by other players?In-game Screenshot: Captured by Sanmay Chakrabarti

The best way is to gear your Pawn with good gears and skills. Having a leveled-up Pawn is also more desirable than under-leveled ones, as they have more quest and enemy knowledge. Also, put Pawn Quests with good rewards to make your Pawn more desirable for hiring.

You can also ask your friends to hire your Pawns. There is a friend Pawn section in the Rift where you can find your Steam or Console friends.

Defeat Enemies and Loot Chests

Another way to earn Rift Crystals is by defeating enemies, mainly bosses like Cyclops, Ogres, Griffins, and such. Enemies have a small chance of dropping Rift Crystals, and I have mainly earned them by defeating bigger monsters than common goblins.

Also, some chests also have Rift Crystals. The ones I have found were hidden and required some thinking to get to. So, keep alook out for those exclamation signson the mini-map.

Complete Side Quests

Dragon’s Dogma 2 features a ton of side quests, much more than the first game. Many of the side quests have twists and turns and many have really good loot. Some of the side quests also reward RC,Rift Crystals, on completion so make sure to do all the side quests you find.

Uses of Rift Crystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Rift Crystals don’t really affect the gameplay loop of Dragon’s Dogma 2 that much, similar to the first game. You can use Rift Crystals to buy Pawn and character customization items from the Rift Merchant found near the Grand Rift Stone in Vernworth.

These items can change the Pawn’s voice, inclination, or allow players to re-customize their characters. Overall, they don’t have a big effect on the game.In-game Screenshot: Captured by Sanmay Chakrabarti

Other than buying items, Rift Crystals can be used to hire stronger pawns. Pawns that are hire level from the Arisen have a Rift Crystal cost. The cost scales on the basis of the level difference between the Pawn and the Arisen. Compared to that, hiring Pawns of the same or lower level from the Arisen has zero Rift Crystal cost. Hiring stronger Pawns when you are stuck on an enemy is fine, but the game difficulty is designed such that you don’t need them for the most part.

In the first Dragon’s Dogma, Rift Crystal became important with the DLC Dark Arisen, as it became the main currency for purifying high-level DLC items. We might see a similar addition in Dragon’s Dogma 2 in the future, so you might want to hold on to those Rift Crystals for now.
