OnePlus 12 Fixes Its Predecessor’s Biggest Shortcoming

As OnePlus continues to release flagship and excites users, it also tends to miss a few key things. One of the things sorely missing for a while now is wireless charging in the company’s phones. However, OnePlus is finally addressing it in its upcoming OnePlus 12. Today,Li Jie, Presidentof OnePlus China, has shared several details about the phone, which includes the return of wireless charging!

Wireless charging was added to theOnePlus 8 Proand carried until theOnePlus 10 Prowith fast wireless charging of up to 50W withWarpCharge. However, OnePlus sadlyremoved wireless chargingfrom itsOnePlus 11flagship. This sudden removal of a widely available smartphone feature felt quite weird.

While some call wireless charging ‘unnecessary‘ and even a ‘waste of money,’ I believe otherwise. You see, the point of wireless charging is not to provide the highest speeds. However, having both is quite a welcome feature, and that is exactly what OnePlus did when they introduced it to their smartphones.

With wireless charging, you get to conveniently put your phone for charging without experiencingany friction. Yes, it takes ten seconds to plug in a cable simply. But if you’re busy, simply picking up the phone from its wireless charging pad when you need to use it and then keeping it back to charge instead of fiddling around with cables is a much easier process!

With the increasing cost of OnePlus smartphones, it was integral forOnePlus 12 to have wireless charging. This has been confirmed onWeibonow. The president of OnePlus China directly stated that theOnePlus 12 will include the ever-awaited wireless charging feature. We should hear more soon about the speeds it will support. As for expectations, the OnePlus 10 Pro supports50W, so the OnePlus 12 could support the same speed or even supporthigher wattage(hopefully).

Besides bringing back wireless charging, the company also shed light on the upcoming phone’s camera setup. OnePlus 12 will use theLYT-808 flagship sensor. It has been optimized & developed in a collaborative effort between both OnePlus & Sony. The same camera is present on theOnePlus Open. This primary camera sensor is 1/1.43-inches, translating to a ~0.7-inch camera sensor.

Talking about other cameras, the OnePlus 12 is expected to also include a ‘periscope telephoto‘ camera sensor. The OnePlus China President also said that this periscope structural design can achieve “both needs” of “telephoto range” and “high-quality sensors.” While that’s a loose translation from Chinese, it does seem that the OnePlus 12 will feature a highly dynamic camera setup.

Lastly, an ultrawide camera with IMX 851 sensor has also been mentioned. It has been described with features such as a “13-channel multi-spectral sensor”, supposedly exclusive to flagship phones. By the way,OnePlus and Hasselbladare collaborating once again to give us a highly optimized camera system on the upcoming flagship smartphone. You can check out theWeibopost talking about the camera.

The OnePlus 12 will be released onDecember 4, 2023, in China, according to the posts made by the company. It definitely looks attractive, and hopefully, the hype for this new phone will be worth it.
