This is exactly why Samsung is working on a smart ring, aka theGalaxy Ring, and has given us a first look. Samsung confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Ring at theGalaxy S24 series launchevent, so we have compiled all we know about this wearable in this guide.

The teaser is proof that the Samsung Galaxy Ring release is not too far away. Moreover, thanks to a couple of leaks and reports, we also have a fair bit of idea about what to expect from this ring once it goes official. So, read on to know everything about the upcoming Samsung Smart Ring.

Even though it is pretty recently that smart rings have started gaining traction, the Samsung Smart Ring has been rumored to be in the works for some time. From patents surfacing on the internet to the device appearing in the Galaxy Wear app, a lot has gone down in the past few months. So, let us dive in!

Galaxy Ring Release Date

Galaxy Ring Release Date

The rumors go all the way back to 2015 when Samsung firstfiledfor a smart ring patent. However, it was soon forgotten about and never came up again, until recently. Sometime in January of 2023, the South Korean companyfiledfor another smart ring patent that seemed a lot more concrete than the one posted back in 2015.

Two months ago, Korean news portal TheElec alsoreportedthat the Galaxy Ring was in advanced stages of development. However, when the company would start mass producing the wearable was unclear, as per this report. The good thing is, recently, a new leak surfaced providing some valuable insight into the Galaxy Ring release, thanks to noted tipsterIce Universe.

Ice Universe predicted that Samsung’s“smart ring should be a star product”during the event. The tipster revealed this piece of information on his Weibo page, and he was indeed correct.

During the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event on January 17, the Galaxy Ring was teased towards the very end. Although not a whole lot of details were revealed (more on that later), the official tease does point to the Galaxy Ring’s release date being sooner rather than later; possibly alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 launch later this year. Nothing can be said for sure at this point.

Galaxy Ring Design & Build

Galaxy Ring Design & Build

Samsung only teased the Galaxy Ring’s design during the Galaxy AI event. There is not a whole lot to go on here, but it does look like other smart rings out there. Just a flashier presentation to tease it.

However, going by this official teaser, we get to know that the ring will flaunt ashiny ceramic or metal design. Additionally, one can also seefour magnetic contact pointswith raised ridges on either side. Yes, very similar to the Oura ring and other competing smart rings.Surprise. Surprise. Here comes the Galaxy Ring😲pic.twitter.com/KqhKKQ9Asz

Threads user@greengartapparentlygot a bit of ahands-on experiencewith the Galaxy Ring and shared his impressions on the platforms. He states that the Galaxy Ringcomes in sizes of up to 13and will be available in 3 different finishes. He also reveals that the Galaxy Ring is “ridiculously light.”

Recently, another patentfiling appeared online, which gave us a rough sketch of what we can expect to see in terms of design. From the looks of it, the Galaxy Ring looks like a regular smart ring, much like the Ultrahuman Ring and the Oura Ring.

What can set the Samsung Galaxy Ring apart from the competition is the kind of materials used to make the ring. Samsung can either take the premium quality way with titanium or the slightly more affordable route with hypoallergenic ceramic. Hard to say anything at this point.

Samsung filed another trademark application for “Samsung Curio.”Now, this could be anything, right? So, why are the chances of it being aringmore than anything else? According toSamMobile, this particular trademark is classified as “Class 9″by the UK Intellectual Property Office. A Class 9 trademark is linked with wearable technology, specifically rings and related hardware. So, there are chances for the Galaxy Ring to arrive with the moniker of Samsung Curio.

Galaxy Ring Features & Specifications

During the Galaxy S24 event, the company also revealed how the Galaxy Ring will be in direct sync with Samsung’s health and wellness features. So, yeah, the Galaxy Ring willmostly be a ‘fitness–centric’smart ring, from all that we got to know from the event. Sadly, that is all that the event disclosed. That is where official details end, and the leaks start.

There’s not much known when it comes to the Galaxy Ring’s specifications and features. However, last year, the Korean news portalNaverspotted another patent that revealed the sensors stack we will get to see on the upcoming smart ring.

These sensorsincludeheart rate monitoring and temperature monitoring, thanks to the presence of ECG and PPG sensors. This particular report also revealed a rough design of the ring.

Nothing else is known on the specifications front so far, but there are a couple of things we expect from the Galaxy Ring. For starters, if you take a look at the Oura Ring 3, it packs a non-replaceable 15mAh (US6) – 22mAh (US13) LiPo battery. Now, this will deliver around a week of battery backup. Meanwhile, the Ultrahuman Ring features a slightly bigger 24mAh LiPo battery. This also delivers around the same battery backup. We expect to see Galaxy Ring feature a similar battery capacity.

In addition, all the smart rings out there are understandably waterproof and the Galaxy Ring will likely be waterproof as well. Now, we’ll have to wait and see the kind of water resistance Samsung brings to the table with its smart ring.

Recently, a couple of users on a Korean portal calleddcinsidecame across avital hint about the Galaxy Ring‘s release date being closer than expected. It goes something like this – one fine day, a user spotted an icon that looked like a ring in the Galaxy Wearables App file. Now, this hints at the app support for the ring being in development. So, just as the Galaxy Watch series and Buds pop up as connectable when you install the Wearables app, a third optionmaybe the Galaxy Ring once it lands.

Talking about the app support, you will most likely see only Android support going by how all the Galaxy Watch models are incompatible with iPhones. Additional features that the app can be expected to bring are sleep tracking, overall health tracking, etc.

Samsung Galaxy Ring Price

Absolutely nothing can be said about the Galaxy Ring price at this point. Nothing is known on that front. However, a couple of assumptions can be made. If you take a look at the competition, both the Oura Ring ($299) and Ultrahuman Ring Air () are a steep investment. It is understandable, given the amount of precision you require to fit all that hardware into a tiny ring.

To stay competitive, we expected Samsung to price the Galaxy Ring around $250 – $300. However, there are chances for it to be pricier as well. That won’t be a huge issue as long as Samsung doesn’t decide to follow in Oura’s footsteps and place a paywall to unlock all of the ring’s essential features. That wouldn’t exactly be favorable, for you are already paying top buck for the ring. Then again, will that really stop Samsung ecosystem users? Only time will tell.

The good thing, however, is that we will likely see the brand unveiling more details about its smart ring in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned, and let us know your expectations from the Galaxy Ring!
